These dogs and bitches have produced hip dysplasia, a genetic defect that can is crippling to many dogs. While it is not certain that HD can be controlled by not breeding affected animals, you have a better chance of not producing HD if you breed animals with clear hips. (common sense), hence the purpose of OFA or Penn Hip exrays at two years of age.
